Pending, frozen and hidden: Hipobuy holds that are not disputes
Most of the time a Hipobuy payment that seems stuck is waiting on a written rule, not on a fight. These are the rules, each with the time Hipobuy gives.
In transit
A PayPal top-up that has not arrived yet

Hipobuy’s PayPal article says a PayPal recharge “may have a 1-60 minute delay in receipt”. Within that hour, money has left PayPal but is not yet in your Hipobuy wallet.
Two more lines in the same article matter later. A PayPal top-up always lands in US dollars, whatever currency your PayPal account holds, at a rate Hipobuy says it adjusts from time to time in line with the Bank of China. And the shipping address on PayPal’s billing page must match the address you give Hipobuy when you submit a parcel.
The fee is printed two ways: 5% plus $0.37 in this article, and 4.4% plus $0.30 in the FAQ on recharge methods. This site quotes both and does not calculate with either.
In transit
Card top-ups: instant, or up to five business days

For cards, Hipobuy says funds are normally credited instantly, and “in special cases” it may take 1 to 5 business days. It does not say what makes a case special.
The card list differs between pages. The recharge FAQ names Visa, MasterCard and Discover. The balance refund article names Visa, Master, Diners and Discover. PayPal’s route accepts Visa, Master, American Express and JCB. If your card is not on the page you are reading, check the checkout screen itself.
A card top-up that is pending is not a dispute and does not lock anything. It is simply money that Hipobuy has not yet received. Your card statement may show the payment before Hipobuy’s wallet does.
Review period
A PayPal eCheck under review
An eCheck is a PayPal payment funded from a bank account, and PayPal reviews it before the money settles. Hipobuy has a separate article for it, because an eCheck changes how cancelling works.

Before PayPal settles the payment, Hipobuy says the eCheck can be cancelled from inside your own PayPal account. Once it has entered PayPal’s clearing process, the article says you need to contact your bank instead.
If you want a refund while the eCheck is still being reviewed, Hipobuy waits until it is reviewed and credited, which it says generally takes 5 to 7 working days. After that, you cancel the order, then withdraw. A successful withdrawal is generally processed within 24 working hours, and a request made at the weekend is executed on Monday.
A combined payment that fails halfway

Hipobuy lets you pay part of an order or shipping fee from gold coins or wallet balance and the rest by PayPal or card. Coins or balance are taken first, and the two cannot be mixed in one transaction.
The pause comes when the outside half fails. The rules say that if PayPal or the card times out or fails, your coins or balance “will be temporarily frozen”, and the funds are “automatically refunded to your account within 24 hours”.
Two other lines shape what happens next. Combined payment is not available for supplementary payments or price differences. And when an order paid with coins plus PayPal or card is refunded, the coin part returns to the coin page while the PayPal part comes back as wallet balance.
PayPal missing from checkout

Sometimes PayPal is simply not there. Hipobuy’s notice explains that PayPal has daily transaction limits; when the day’s quota is reached, the option is hidden temporarily and “is not permanently closed”.
The option comes back at 00:00 Beijing Time, when the quota resets. Until then you can wait or choose another method. Hipobuy’s own tip is to pay early in the day, since the quota is shared.
Nothing is held in this case. No payment was taken, so there is nothing to dispute. It is worth knowing only because a missing button can look like a problem with your account when it is not.
Klarna: orders and shipping only

Klarna returned to Hipobuy with a short notice. It has a daily usage limit; when the limit is reached the option disappears until the count starts again at 00:00 Beijing Time.
The notice also says Klarna “does not support balance top-ups”. Orders and shipping fees are the only things it pays for. So money paid by Klarna never sits in the wallet first, which changes where a refund would land and which UK rules apply.
One inconsistency is worth noting. Hipobuy’s newer withdrawal guide says the withdrawal page shows earlier top-ups made through outside channels, and its list of examples includes Klarna. The two pages do not agree on whether Klarna money can be a top-up. This site reports both lines and draws no conclusion.
The six holds side by side
Put together, the holds on this page fall into three kinds. Money in transit, which arrives on its own. Money frozen by a failed combined payment, which Hipobuy says returns within 24 hours. And payment options hidden for the day, where nothing was taken at all.

None of these is a dispute and none of them locks the account. They are also the cases where a chargeback would be the heaviest possible response to a light problem, because a chargeback on PayPal or a credit card brings the account lock described on the lock page. That is a description of the rules, not a recommendation either way.
