Hipobuy, in its own words
By the account on Hipobuy’s About Us page, its buying service started in 2019 and was rebuilt in 2024 as what it now calls a global purchasing agency platform. Both dates come from Hipobuy itself, and this guide repeats them only as its claim.
It describes itself as an intermediary connecting buyers worldwide with Chinese e-commerce websites. In practice you paste a link from Taobao, 1688 or Weidian, or fill in an item by hand, Hipobuy buys it, inspects it at its warehouse and posts it. Its Service and Fees page says the agent service itself is free; you pay for the item, international shipping and customs charges.
You can switch hipobuy.com between eight languages and several display currencies, and an iOS app exists as well. Five companies are named as joint operators, one of them registered in England, as set out on the register page.
Terms
Hipobuy’s rule on authentic goods
Hipobuy titles section 8 of its Service Terms an anti-counterfeiting policy. It opens with the line in the figure and goes on to say that buying non-authentic products is strictly prohibited, and warns that breaking the rule can cost you the right to buy, money it holds back, and stock it disposes of.
Two other Hipobuy texts sit beside it. Its Search Terms state that no assessment of genuineness or quality is made by Hipobuy, and its product pages say it does not provide services for products without verified brand authorisation. Responsibility for buying genuine goods is put on the buyer.
This guide covers holds and disputes over orders that went wrong. It quotes the authenticity rule because withholding funds is one of its stated consequences.
Three ways
Why use Hipobuy, read honestly
Start with what is not special. Most agents take wallet top-ups and order payments, check items at a warehouse, and refund to a balance inside their own site before you withdraw it. Hipobuy does all of that.
What stands out at Hipobuy, for someone reading about holds, is how much is written down. The lock rule, the eCheck wait, the frozen-funds return, the PayPal quota and the withdrawal order all have their own help pages. It promises a reply within 24 hours, names five operating companies, and says withdrawals go back to the original payment method first.
There are also good reasons to look elsewhere. Hipobuy publishes no customer service hours. A refunded combined payment returns the PayPal part as balance rather than to PayPal. Parcel compensation is paid in gold coins, not cash. If any of those matter more to you than the rest, another agent may suit you better, and that is a fair choice.
Judging any agent by its rules for held money
When choosing an agent, people tend to compare shipping prices. For anyone worried about money getting stuck, a different set of questions is more useful, and Hipobuy can be held to it like any other.
Is there a written rule for what a chargeback or PayPal dispute does to the account? Where do refunds land, and how do you get them out? Which companies run the service, and can you find at least one of them on a public register? Are customer service hours published, and is there an email address as well as a chat window?
A trustworthy agent is not one that answers every question well, but one that answers them in writing, so that you know the rules before you need them.

Hipobuy is one of many shopping agents serving buyers outside China. The others you will see mentioned work on the same pattern: they buy from Taobao, 1688 and Weidian, hold a wallet balance, photograph items at a warehouse and combine parcels before posting.
Where agents genuinely differ is in the details this site cares about: whether a dispute locks the account, where refunds and compensation land, which payment methods they accept and whether they say who operates them. Those details are worth comparing before you choose one, using each agent’s own help pages.
This guide names no other agent and ranks none. Comparisons without shared, checkable data turn into opinions, and opinions about other companies’ dispute handling are easy to get wrong.

Most Hipobuy guides explain how to buy. This one is about the moments when money stops: a lock, a frozen balance, a payment still pending, a dispute you are weighing up. It is written for UK readers in British English, with UK official sources quoted beside Hipobuy’s own.

From a seller link to your delivery
The official Hipobuy beginner guide separates the purchase from the international parcel. Its nine general order states are shown below in the same order. Save the selected variant before paying; the warehouse check is the point to resolve visible problems before shipping.
- Order submitted. Paste the supported seller link, confirm options and quantity, then pay for the item and domestic delivery. Unsupported searchable links may require the manual order form.
- Order placed. Hipobuy’s buyer purchases from the seller. Ask the buyer about a changed price or unavailable option before agreeing to a substitute.
- Seller shipped. Follow the domestic order tracking; it is travelling to the Chinese warehouse.
- Arrived at warehouse. Receipt and registration are separate from storage. Keep checking the order status.
- Inspection and storage. Compare quantity, size label and visible condition with the saved listing. Ask for a useful close-up or measurement if the standard photos cannot answer your question.
- Shipping requested. Select stored items, destination, packing and an available line. Recheck restrictions, dimensions, cover and the quote before paying.
- Parcel packed. The final packed weight and dimensions can change the shipping amount; inspect the adjustment in the account.
- Shipped. Track the international parcel and keep its reference with the purchase records.
- Delivered and confirmed. Inspect the parcel, retain evidence of any issue and follow the relevant support procedure promptly.
